Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
